Reading a Peptide Label Without the Hype

A research peptide label is a condensed data sheet. Learning what belongs there — and noticing what is absent — is a fast way to assess a supplier.
What should appear
- The full compound name, written out rather than abbreviated into a nickname
- Quantity of material per vial, with units
- An explicit research-use designation
- Lot or batch number, cross-referable to a certificate of analysis
- Storage conditions
- Manufacturer identity and country of origin
Naming matters
Full chemical or established compound names are the standard. Coded abbreviations and consumer-style nicknames obscure what a material actually is, complicate literature searches, and make independent verification harder. If a name describes an outcome rather than a molecule, it is not a scientific designation.
What should not appear
A research material label is not a place for outcome descriptions, usage protocols, or suggested quantities. Language of that kind describes an intended use inconsistent with research-only supply, regardless of any disclaimer printed alongside it.
The single best test
Request the certificate of analysis corresponding to the specific lot number printed on the vial. A supplier operating properly can produce it promptly, and the two documents will agree. That exchange reveals more than any claim on the packaging.
